What Happened to America?
What Has Happened to America?
The greatest generation, as Tom Brokaw would call them, as well as previous generations, created the biggest, best, most prosperous nation on earth. They survived the Great Depression, fought and won two world wars , the Korean war, and built an economy unsurpassed by any nation in world history.
During their formative and early youth, the average education was at the 8thn grade level. Few if any ever had the opportunity to attend high school, college was out of the question.
Most were self educated, schooled in a one room school house, where all eight grades were in the same room. One of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln was home schooled, while living in the back woods of Indiana and Illinois.
They achieved this through hard work and self reliance, using common sense and for the most part with high moral and ethical values.
Life's lessons were learned on the playground, where at a young age, kids were taught to defend themselves, and survive in a world that isn't always friendly. Important lessons to learn, there isn't always going to be someone around to protect us, or make sure something is politically correct.
Today, our young are educated in monstrous school systems where common sense and decency isn't even considered, it doesn't conform with what some consider being politically correct.
Billions of dollars are spent every year, teaching children, who graduate from school unable to read or put a sentence together.
Every challenge is taken from them, kids are no longer taught to compete, every one needs to be the same. I've got news for you we aren't all the same. We don't all have the same abilities, men are created equal , equal in the idea that all people have an equal opportunity to reach their highest potential, humans were never designed to be equal.Who would want that?
Stress and hardship is removed from their life, how can kids learn to cope with the challenges of adult life, if they don't learn these skills at an early age. No wonder the teen suicide rate is so high.
America , through the adoption of more permissive standards than would have even been considered in previous generations has become passive, Tom Brokaw is now afraid to walk into a bar or restaurant in Arizona. How absurd!
If we want to reclaim America and make it the country it was years ago, it needs to start with the people, not the government. The only reason our government is so corrupt is the fact that the American people keep electing the same people to solve the problems those same officials created in the first place. How absurd is that? At one time that was called ,"letting the fox guard the hen house".
Congress was designed to be occupied with citizen congressmen , not career politicians. Under the present situation, even some of the most honest members of congress become corrupt in a short time because of all the influences of power and money. There is nothing wrong with money, we all need it , however it needs to resume it's proper place in society.
The greatest generation as well as those before it, had a set of morals and values that stood the test of time, I know that no one is perfect and our ancestors certainly weren't either, however, they still used those morals as a guide to life, and for the most part lived by them.
If we as a nation are ever going to recover and become as great as we once were, it has to start at home. We need to let kids be kids, let them get knocked down once in a while, teach them that competition is good.Insist they learn in school, once they enter adulthood, no one is going to give them a passing grade just for showing up. They need their parents and grandparents, they also need to be corrected when they are wrong.
Children have a right to three meals a day, a safe environment and a place to sleep at night, other than that , the only rights they have are the one's given to them by their parents.
We as individuals need to watch over our elected officials, their job performance shouldn't be based on how much pork they have brought to their home district. Their job performance should be based on them doing the right thing and staying within the bounds of good common sense.
If they don't do the job, do as Donald Trump would do, fire them. Being a good public official isn't a popularity contest.

Education is a right and the responsibility of the government for the betterment of the future. First, they took phonics out of the schools, then they replaced regular math with new math from CA. Thirdly, they opted for social promotion and lowered expectations. Schools are rife with undisciplined brats who think they don't have to work to achieve what they want...Did you go to public school? I went to #84 in Indianapolis. It was a great school with an outstanding music program. Now, the TAS is taught most of the year instead of all the necessary subjects.
Except for kindergarten, schools hours should be from 8:30am to 4:30pm five days a week, 11 months a year. There are too many vacation times.
Adequate teacher compensation should be mandatory throughout the states with the federal government making up the funding differences in poorer districts. Not to do so is immoral. Why are teachers paid so little in comparison to professional athletes and movie stars, when teachers' work is so much more important and vital to this country?

I agree, however money isn't the answer. I went to a very small school, 53 in my graduating class. We had a thing called discipline, if I got in trouble in school I didn't go home and tell mom and dad. They would have stuck up for the teacher. They knew what an ornery brat I was.
I saw a video on utube couple of years ago, my school won the Division 1 state basketball championship in 09, from what I saw in the video and what I observe when I go back home, it is still the same as it was in 1962.
Thankfully some things don't change.
