All New Yorkers to Become Organ Donars
All New Yorkers to become organ donors
Another example of big government nosing their way into our personal lives.
Organ donation has become a way to save literally thousands of lives every year. It has become so common place that it has developed a severe shortage of usable organs.New York State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky has found a way to solve this dilemma. After losing his daughter because of kidney failure he is proposing that every New Yorker be automatically placed in the organ donor pool whereby their organs would automatically be donated upon their death.
I'm sure Mr. Brodsky's intentions are noble and having lost a daughter I can surely sympathize with him, however, this Book of the Month approach whereby one has to opt out of the system is not the way to go. Making a choice to donate organs is a serious choice.
Although the DMV might be a good location to have people register, that does imply the decision could be made on the spur of the moment. Bearing this in mind wouldn't it be best for the individual to have the ability to opt-in rather than opt out. How many people would be donating organs against their wishes because of oversight or inappropriate motives of a government official?
