Universal Common Sense

Some times it is hard to make sense of life.

Common Sense:

Although I think there is sort of an"universal" common sense, in other words events evolve according to a natural order, certain rules apply that cannot be changed, IE , live life by a set of high ethical standards and your life normally will be better than if you live a life filled with drugs, illicit sex and otherwise bad behavior. Develop a good economic policy either on a personal or national level and financial rewards will come to pass. Break these universal laws and disaster awaits.

However on an individual basis, we each live in our own world, a world unlike any one else. This uniqueness places you at a different perspective than any one else on the planet. A different perspective than even the person sitting closest to you.

Strange as it may seem, two people sitting next to each other will often times view the exact same event  differently, and see two entirely different realities.

This fact then should make  sense to you that we each have an inner world specific only to one self? Each person has a unique perspective, based on life experiences, with which to view life.

If this doesn't make sense to you, then it is time to review the common sense perspective, which states that no one can have more authority on what is right for you, than you! We often have the perspective that the most important answers to life's questions come from outside ourselves. This is an erroneous assumption, because of our personal perspective, experience, and desires, only we know the best path to pursue.

This doesn't say that we shouldn't look to others for advise, that is healthy, we should always consider the thoughts of others in making a decision, however the final answer always comes from within!

These two different perspectives on common sense creates many of the problems we see in the world today. Because of the way people in different parts of the country and world are raised gives each a different perspective than some one else. this would be fine except for the fact that some values cannot be changed. If a person is raised with a poorsense of values, they don't know anything else, their poor values translates into bad judgment. They keep making bad decisions in their life and can't figure out why their life isn't working. These beliefs become so ingrained into their life that if someone tries to teach them "universal "common sense they don't understand and think you a fool.

This is the reason it is so important for children to be raised with the correct moral and ethical  values, if they aren't taught from an early age it makes it extremely hard  later in life for them to develop the right attitudes and work ethics to succeed in this life. If kids are taught that lying, cheating, spending money recklessly, and not showing respect to others is acceptable behavior, than they naturally assume that acting in this manner is just "common sense".

Probably every generation has said this, but it is more important now than ever to teach our children the proper values. With the onslaught of TV, the Internet,MySpace and all the other negative influences out there, it is extremely important that kids know where their parents and family stand on such matters.

I'm not saying that all the afore mentioned mediums of communication are bad, much to the contrary, our society has benefited in many ways by the development of instant communications. I wouldn't want to live in a world without them. However, all things can be used for good or evil, people need to discern the difference and make an intelligent decision as to what is "truth". This is where a strong sense of right and wrong comes into play.

If an individual grows up in an atmosphere where good judgment and values are missing ,they believe it is perfectly fine to do whatever pleases them, with no regard to anyone or anything else.

None of us are perfect,if we were , there would be no need for us to be crawling around on this planet trying to make sense of it all. However, it is the responsibility of parents, family, community leaders, and religious leaders to act in a  respectable manner, to set a good example, and if one makes a mistake , come clean, admit it, and don't blame it on someone else or some event in the past.
